Independence Day

What: That poppin’ sound around your neighborhood is all about the 238th anniversary of this country’s independence. Amid the parades, picnics and fireworks, take time to read the document that started it all.



Nature outing

Wet and wild pond animals

What: Kids love getting wet and wild. Why not go somewhere where they can learn about the wildlife that like to do the same thing? Wet and Wild Pond Animals unveils the crawly, squishy, hoppy pond dwellers that make their homes in the Ancil Hoffman Park.

When: 10:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday

Where: Effie Yeaw Nature Center, 2850 San Lorenzo Way, Carmichael

Cost: Free; $5 per car park entry fee



International celebration

Fun times at Fairytale Town

What: Between the Chinese lion dancing and drumming, Scottish Highland dancing, ballet folklorico and more, Fairytale Town will be moving to international beats.

When: 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday

Comedy club

Give it up for Sam Bam

What: Sam Bam’s Comedy Jam is hitting the Punch Line Comedy Club stage after Bam made his mark on the Bay Area comedic scene. The Stockton native has been featured on BET and was a finalist in the Bay Area Black Comedy Competition.
