Today’s high of 95 is predicted to extend through tomorrow, giving the Sacramento area a relatively temperate Fourth of July.

Thursday and Friday are both expected to be sunny and clear. The high is about three degrees above average for this time of year, and well below temperatures seen on last year’s Independence Day.

“Last year we got to 110 on the Fourth of July, which folks found hard to deal with,” said National Weather Service forecaster Tom Dang. ‘The mid-90s, that’s pretty much perfect for Sacramento.”

Over the weekend, however, the heat will return as a high pressure ridge currently centered over the desert southwest moves towards northern California. Sunday’s high is forecast to reach 99. Like last week, the high Monday is predicted to crest above the 100 degree mark. Throughout, the weather will be clear.

After Monday, temperatures are expected to dip back into the mid-90s.

The National Weather Service’s 7-day forecast:

Today: Sunny, with a high near 93. South southwest wind around 8 mph.

Tonight: Clear, with a low around 60. South wind 9 to 11 mph.

Independence Day: Sunny, with a high near 93. South southwest wind 6 to 9 mph.

Friday night: Clear, with a low around 60. South wind 8 to 11 mph.
