Prop 187: Defining progress

Re "Progress slow after Prop. 187" (Our Region, July 6): Here is an idiom for everyone: The squeaky wheel gets the grease.The rare flipside of this is that the squeaky wheel can also be removed.

The point in this particular column regarding long past events is "What point is the writer trying to make?" Since there are legions making careers out of immigration, reform or otherwise, the point not taken is that everybody in this country is from somewhere else. Get over it. This is the only country in the world where you can maintain cultural identity and still support the majority view.

Progress is a dynamic action, not a static one. If the majority cedes to the minority, it is the beginning of a house divided.
