Triple-digit day: A third consecutive day of triple-digit heat is forecast for Sacramento as summer is in full swing. Its pool weather, snowcone weather and unfortunately wildland fire weather as the Sacramento region bakes under a high pressure system. Todays high in Sacramento is expected to 101 degrees. Thats hot but not nearly as torrid as up-valley where the high is predicted to be 109 in Redding and 110 in Red Bluff.
Fires scorch region: The Monticello fire was one of several wildfires sparked in the Sacramento region over the long holiday weekend. The fire, near the Monticello Dam on the southeast shore of Lake Berryessa, consumed 7,000 acres by Sunday afternoon and was 30 percent contained. The nearby Butts Canyon fire, just north of Lake Berryessa, destroyed two homes, seven outbuildings and burned 4,300 acres. It was 80 percent contained by Sunday afternooon.
DUI arrests up: Sacramento County law enforcement officers arrested 43 people on suspicion of driving under the influence from Wednesday night through Friday night, three more arrests than during the same 48-hour period last year.
Local sports: The USL Pro soccer match between Republic FC and Orange County Blues FC that was postponed Friday by the wildfire that burned near Cal Expo and Republic FCs Bonney Field will be played tonight. Gates are scheduled to open at 6 p.m., with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. Tickets meant for Fridays match will be honored Monday, according to the Republic FC. Tonights match also can be watched live online at SacRepublicFC.com/matchday.
