Re "Fireworks on Fourth can trigger PTSD for vets" (July 2): As this article pointed out, fireworks are tough on veterans and others with post-traumatic stress disorder. Add in the fireworks-caused fires, runaway pets jamming the animal shelters and related injuries.

Nonprofits and faith communities need to look for other fundraising options. TV stations plugging fireworks sales, like KCRA, don't help. Church groups especially need to consider the ethical implications of selling products that cause pain or suffering, especially to returning members of our armed forces. It doesn't seem sensible or patriotic to do so. A fireworks stand next to a building with a cross presents a troubling vision.

"First do no harm" should be a mantra of the groups that want to raise money by selling fireworks. Find another product, please.
