At the end of a 3-week stay in Sacramento, I pondered on the question from the passport officer at San Francisco International Airport. When asked where I was going I said "Sacramento." A grimace and question ensued: "Why Sacramento?" The froideur of the border police led to a panicked response form us both independently, i.e., it is halfway between Tahoe and Napa.
Over three weeks, we have learned to love this city. Rivers, trees, avenues, history and the food...we have discovered great places and great people downtown and by the American River. It's a city on the verge of a renaissance, unlocking its secrets to those who research and look before we have even started to look outside to the new Napa of the Amador County.
Our son was born here which is why we came. Young Frederick will forever be our own little Sacramento Bee. Thank you.
