New chief information officer named at UC Davis

Viji Murali, an information technology veteran in higher education, has been named chief information officer at the University of California, Davis.

Murali will also hold the title of vice provost of Information and Educational Technology. She starts her new duties Aug. 18.

Murali comes to UC Davis from Washington State University, where she served as CIO of the WSU system and vice president for information services since 2007.

She succeeds Pete Siegel, who left UCD a year ago. Since then, Professor Prasant Mohapatra has served as interim vice provost and CIO.

Ralph Hexter, UCD provost and executive vice chancellor, said in a statement that Murali’s nearly three decades of experience in higher education IT has prepared her “to leverage our broad IT resources toward building a more efficient university.”
