Deputies arrest Auburn man just outside jail in sting to snare adults seeking minors

A man caught up in a sting to catch adults attempting online hook-ups with underage girls was arrested outside the Placer County Jail.

Daniel Eugene Kirschner, 28, of Auburn was booked Tuesday after meeting detectives outside the Placer County lockup. He was arrested on suspicion of communicating with a minor for purposes of committing a sexual act and attempted lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14.

Deputies said that Kirschner was there to meet someone he thought was a 13-year-old girl. In fact, the person he had been corresponding with online was a sheriff’s detective masquerading as a girl.

Kirschner is the fourth suspect since February who has been arrested after placing an online ad that was answered by a Placer County detective, according to a sheriff’s department press release.

Placer County detectives have responded to ads as a 13-year-old girl. In Kirschner’s case, he placed an ad looking for a girlfriend on a website.

Even when told by the “girl” that she was 13 years old, Kirschner continued to e-mail with the detective for a week, according to the press release. Detectives, still under the guise of a 13 year old, told Kirschner to come to the jail for a meet-up.

He did not hesitate. When he arrived in Auburn at the jail, detectives placed Kirschner under arrest and walked him into the jail.
