Cubs call up Hendricks

Cincinnati, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - The Chicago Cubs selected right-handed pitcher Kyle Hendricks from Triple-A Iowa.

Hendricks will make his major league debut Thursday in a start against the Reds at Great American Ball Park.

Hendricks, 24, is 10-5 with a 3.59 ERA in 17 starts for Iowa this season. His 10 wins rank tied for first among the league's pitchers while his 97 strikeouts rank fifth and his 3.59 ERA ranks 10th.

In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Dallas Beeler has been optioned to Iowa.

Beeler, 25, has posted a 3.27 ERA in two starts for the Cubs this season, taking the loss Wednesday after yielding four runs on six hits in five innings of a 4-1 setback against the Reds. He is 5-3 with a 3.93 ERA in 11 starts for Iowa.
