Armenia-Azerbaijan: Stay out of it

Re "Legislature should stay out of Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict." (Viewpoints, July 5): I am appalled that the California Assembly recently passed resolution AJR 32 and that it's headed to the Senate.

AJR 32 is a direct contradiction to U.S. foreign policy. It also reveals the lack of thorough knowledge of the foreign conflict. Hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis have been living in refugee camps, awaiting return to their homes for over two decades. Any attempt to obtain recognition for the so-called NKR, in circumvention of the peace process mediated by the U.S., France and Russia, will make another military confrontation inevitable.

Apart from extending the human suffering, such provocation would also damage the vested U.S. interest in regional stability and sustainable development in the South Caucasus. Why is nobody alarmed by this resolution and the horrible precedent it sets?
