( - The Philadelphia Phillies called up Grady Sizemore on Thursday, adding him to the big-league club two weeks after signing him to a minor-league deal.

The oft-injured Sizemore batted .289 in his first 10 games for Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

He was signed by the Boston Red Sox in the offseason to a one-year, $750,000 deal and won the starting job in center field after a good spring training, but his level of play didn't continue and he was released on June 18.

This season is Sizemore's first in the majors since 2011 due to knee and back injuries. A three-time All-Star with the Cleveland Indians from 2006-08, he has undergone seven surgeries since the 2009 season.

The Phillies optioned pitcher David Buchanan to Lehigh Valley and moved Cliff Lee to the 60-day disabled list. Lee hasn't pitched since May 18 because of an elbow issue but is expected back after the All-Star break.
