Assault with boiling water earns may seven years to life in prison

Published: Friday, Jul. 11, 2014 - 7:57 pm

A man convicted of torture and domestic violence for pouring boiling water over a woman’s head has been sentenced to seven years to life in prison.

A Sacramento County jury in April found Sofronski Brookins, 31, guilty of aggravated mayhem, torture and a domestic violence assault charge. It also found true that he personally inflicted bodily injury and that he had a prior conviction for domestic violence, according to a Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office news release. He was sentenced by Sacramento Superior Court Judge Cheryl Chun Meegan.

On Aug.17, 2012, Brookins became angry with the victim. He boiled a pot of water, held the victim against her will and poured the boiling water over her head, causing second-degree burns over 17 percent of her body and significant scarring, authorities said.
