After a relatively cool opening day Friday for the California State Fair – the high in downtown Sacramento was only 89 degrees – temperatures are heating up today, but they’re nowhere near record highs for this time of year.
“This time of year, if it’s below 100 (degrees) and it’s July, it’s all good,” said National Weather Service forecaster Jonnie Powell.
Indeed, the high today is expected to reach 98 degrees, just a few degrees higher than the average for this time of year, Powell said. Temperatures on Sunday are expected to reach into the upper 90s as well, with a high of 101 degrees forecast for Monday.
“Looks like one 100-degree day. That’s a piece of cake for July,” Powell said, adding that temperatures should drop back into the 90s on Tuesday.
The record high for this time of year is 110 degrees.
