Holding Berryhill's feet to the fire

Re "Sen. Berryhill will not challenge FPPC fine" (Capitol & California, July 8): No wonder the FEC has limits on political donations and expenses. Some politicians still manage to overlook the rules and think they can get away with campaign money. State Sen. Tom Berryhill did not publicly disclose the contributions made to his brother Bill's campaign in 2008.

The Berryhills are not challenging the accusations and are paying the $40,000 money-laundering penalty because they are guilty of money-laundering. Although Tom is no longer in Congress, Bill is up for re-election this fall.

People need to place these incumbents in the hot seat and make judgments based on the Berryhills' characters because they are not afraid to money-launder in order to win an election. Thus, if the public knew that Sen. Bill Berryhill was a money-launderer, would the people re-elect him?
