Republic FC scores early, tops Charlotte

Forward Thomas Stewart scored in the 10th minute for visiting Republic FC, which made the early goal stand up for a 1-0 win over the Charlotte (N.C.) Eagles in a USL Pro match Monday, the team reported.

Republic FC (10-6-2) broke a three-game league losing streak and moved into third place in the USL Pro standings. Charlotte fell to 5-10-3.

Midfielder Max Alvarez assisted on Stewart’s goal after taking a pass from Chad Bartlome.
