Re "The return of the grizzly" (Forum, July 13): We seem to have a new brand of environmentalist who want to return nature to its original state. They lobby to stop stocking of trout in streams in favor of the return of wild trout and turn the sometimes useful catch and release to no catch to release.
Now these "extremealists" want to return grizzlies to the Sierra. I would bet not many of them have been around grizzlies. I fished Yellowstone Park for over 50 years and I have. Grizzlies are territorial. If you invade their territory, they will hunt you down. Even with bear spray I wouldn't attempt to fish some areas of Yellowstone where the trout are plentiful and hungry but so are the grizzles.
Bringing grizzlies back to the Sierra is a bad idea.
