Border crisis: sharing the resources

Published: Tuesday, Jul. 15, 2014 - 11:07 am

The Republic of Turkey has a population of 70 million, and 98 percent of its citizens are Muslim. Turkey is now housing 1.05 million refugees from Syria in camps and cities. The United States has a population of over 320 million with 73 percent identifying as Christians. And as Fox News described on July 14, the U.S. is experiencing an endless wave of 60,000 women and children immigrants hoping to find a safe haven.

So where is it? Where is the American exceptionalism we keep hollering about when we wave our flags and carry our guns? Are we not capable of handling this supposedly endless influx of women and children with compassion and decency? Is it too hard to share our resources with those less fortunate? Is the Christian faith only limited to birth control and gays?

Should we ask Turkey for guidance?
