Emotions boiled over following arraignments in two homicide cases, resulting in a brawl Tuesday afternoon outside the Sacramento County Main Jail.

Sacramento Police Department spokesman Sgt. Matt Young said officers responded at 2:20 p.m. to a fight outside the jail in which punches were thrown. He said officers broke up the fight and mediated the dispute. No one was taken into custody.

Witnesses said about 50 people were gathered outside the jail.

Young said officers were unclear what cases were involved, but some people at the scene said a dispute erupted between the family of 20-year-old Tyrell Lamont Hall, who was fatally shot early Saturday outside a Fulton Avenue hookah lounge, and family members of suspects in the case. Frank Eugene Jackson, 19, and Tana Dania, 23, were arrested on suspicion of homicide. It is unclear if both men were arraigned Tuesday.

Heated emotions also were reported in a case involving the death Friday of 14-month-old Leila Shehadeh. Guyland D. Washington, 19, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of homicide in connection with the child’s death and was also arraigned Tuesday afternoon.

A sign on the jail window following Tuesday afternoon’s fight stated that visits were canceled until further notice.
