Ami Bera takes large fundraising lead over Doug Ose

Rep. Ami Bera reported raising more than $700,000 in the latest quarter, boosting his cash on hand to nearly 10 times that of Republican rival Doug Ose.

The Elk Grove Democrat’s haul is his most robust fundraising effort of the election cycle. Ose, the land developer seeking a return to Congress, took in about $450,000 in the quarter ending June 30, including a $100,000 loan from the candidate.

Ose’s reserve stands at about $200,000 to Bera’s nearly $2 million.

In a statement, Bera’s campaign manager Danny Kazin said the gap suggests Ose will have to rely “on his own vast fortune and outside money.” The 7th district race, covering much of suburban Sacramento County, is one of several contests across the state in which Republicans are targeting freshmen Democrats.

In the neighboring 4th district, Republican Rep. Tom raised about $246,000 compared with GOP challenger Art Moore’s total of $46,000. Moore, whose intraparty challenge of the conservative lion has garnered headlines, finished the period with $4,269 in cash on hand.
