Sacramento County jury convicts man of 14 counts of child molestation

A Sacramento County jury has convicted a 40-year-old man of 14 counts of child molestation in a case involving multiple victims.

David Allen Thompson was found guilty of charges including two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a minor younger than 14 years old and seven counts of lewd acts with a child with force, according to a Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office news release. The jury also found true the special allegation that Thompson committed the acts against more than one victim.

In March 2007, Thompson sexually assaulted an 11-year-old family member. Despite his threats that he would kill the girl if she told anyone, the victim disclosed the abuse to a classmate the following day. She also disclosed that she had witnessed Thompson sexually abusing her 13-year-old sister on several occasions, authorities said.

Soon after the allegations surfaced, both victims went to live with family members out of state. Authorities said Thompson traveled to their home, picked up the 13-year-old from her school without her family’s knowledge and fled the state. He was stopped for speeding and taken into custody, but later escaped.

Thompson remained free for almost a year before he was captured at a driver’s license checkpoint in 2008. At that time, he possessed false identification and provided the arresting officer with a false name.

Both victims testified against Thompson during his trial. A male relative of Thompson also testified that when he was 5 years old, Thompson molested him at his grandparents’ house, authorities said.

Thompson is to be sentenced Aug. 13 before Sacramento Superior Court Judge Cheryl Chun Meegan.
