A Rhode Island company has completed its acquisition of Tony’s Fine Foods, a homegrown food distribution company based in West Sacramento.

United Natural Foods of Providence, R.I., Wednesday issued a news release saying it had closed on the $195.3-million acquisition. Tony’s will continue to operate as a subsidiary of United Natural Foods.

Founded in 1934 by Anthony “Tony” Ingoglia Sr. and his wife, Adele, Tony’s Fine Foods distributes specialty meats, cheeses, deli and other goods throughout the western United States, Alaska and Hawaii. For the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, privately held Tony’s had $714 million in net sales, according to United Natural Foods.

UNFI, which owns a warehouse in Rocklin, said buying Tony’s would allow it to expand its product offerings.
