Re "$500-a-day water-waste fine OK'd" (Page A1, July 16): If all of California water use was in a one gallon bucket of water, residents use would equal 10 tablespoons. If every region in California did as well as the best saver in May, Sacramento Valley with 13 percent, that would save 1.3 tablespoons.
If we don't, we will be criminals paying $500, which is 10 percent of the middle class monthly family income. How about the other 96 percent of the water use? If the Walmart store in Elk Grove is fined $500, it would be less than 0.2 percent of that one store's monthly profit, a drop in their bucket.
What would the fine be for California agriculture who uses the majority of the state's water if they wasted no water? Please tell me who at the board is getting kickbacks so I know who to call when I need bail money?
