Border crisis: it's not taxpayers' responsibility

Re "The international crisis of unaccompanied migrant children at U.S. border" (Editorials, June 8): Now let me get this straight. The U.S. has 70 million people who live in poverty. We have 40 million on food stamps and millions out of work. I won't mention the Social Security system and Medicare which is unsustainable, according to their trustees.

With all these major problems, Congress and the president think we should spend billions on undocumented immigrants so they can come to the U.S. and compete with the millions who are already suffering. Doesn't sound like this will improve the massive problems we already have. Only in Washington will you find this kind of thinking/planning.

As a taxpayer, I don't feel I have any responsibility for supporting those entering our country illegally.
