Lecture examines medications for dementia patients

Can medications slow the advance of dementia in someone diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease? Are other psychiatric medications appropriate to use in people with dementia?

Dr. Glen Xiong will talk about these issues in an upcoming UC Davis Alzheimer’s Disease Center lecture, which is free and open to the public.

Xiong – an associate director of the center as well as medical director of the Sacramento County Mental Health Treatment Center – will also provide an overview of the psychiatric drugs commonly prescribed to treat behavioral symptoms associated with dementia.

The hour-long lecture is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. July 24 at the UC Davis MIND Institute auditorium, 2825 50th St. in Sacramento.
