Regional Digest: Sandoval, Kaur are Sacramento County Junior golf winners

Austen Sandoval and Gurman Kaur were the overall champions Thursday at the Sacramento County Junior Golf Championship.

Sandoval won the boys division with a two-round total of 3-under-par 141 at Cherry Island. He was two shots clear of Bryan Baumgarten.

Kaur was the girls winner at 146, one shot better than Beah Cruz.

• Alex Lee closed with a 2-under 70 to win an American Junior Golf Association tournament at Serrano. His three-round total of 206 gave him a four-shot win over Brandon Wu. Anna Zhou (74) won the girls division. Her 215 total was one shot better than Allisen Corpuz.

• Josh Baskins (Redding) reached the Round of 16 at the U.S. Amateur Public Links before being eliminated 4 and 3 by Jess Bonneau of Houston. Earlier in the day at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, Kans., Baskins beat Charlie Danielson of Osceola, Wis., 2 and 1 in the Round of 32.

Gold host Sonoma Sol

in playoffs Saturday

The Sacramento Gold (10-3-1), in quest of a second National Premier Soccer League championship, will host the Sonoma Sol (9-2-3) in a west regional playoff final Saturday at 8 p.m. at River City High School. The winner advances to the NPSL semifinals.

The Gold, the 2010 NPSL champion, is led by Manolo Pena and Jason Jones. Sonoma, runner-up for the league title last year, features Ross Middlemiss, the 2013 NPSL Player of the Year,

Admission is $5; 12 and under are free.
