Six people were injured Friday morning when an employee at an Elk Grove car wash lost control of a vehicle, which then crashed into other vehicles and a nearby building.
Elk Grove police spokesman Officer Christopher Trim said the incident occurred about 11:30 a.m. at the Bubbles Car Wash, 8458 Bond Road. He said a car wash employee was driving a Ford Explorer out of the wash area into the drying area and lost control of the SUV. Trim said confusion at the scene led to initial reports that the vehicle was being driven by its owner.
Trim said the Explorer struck a vehicle in the drying area that was being tended to by four car wash employees. It then continued through the parking lot, striking a building housing S&G Carpet and More, then back into the parking lot, where it struck a parked vehicle and a pole.
Trim said five people were taken to area hospitals, one with critical injuries and the other four with moderate injuries. A sixth person was treated for minor injuries at the scene. Trim said he did not know whether all the injured were car wash employees.
The building housing the carpet business sustained exterior damage, he said. No one inside the building was injured.
An investigation is under way to determine what caused the driver to lose control of the Explorer.
