Women's sports coverage inadequate

Re "Too much about femme fatale" (Letters, July 21): The letters pointing out that The Bee ran too many prominently placed stories about a female prostitute accused of murder struck a chord with me, especially when a reader couldn't find women's golf coverage during that period.

I checked The Bee sports section. The only two stories that mention women are in Roundup. An AP brief notes, "Mark Rypien beat out Jeremy Roenick and Annika Sorenstam to win the American Century Golf Championship." I had to go online to find out it was a co-ed tournament. The other brief is about Lydia Ko, the youngest million-dollar LPGA earner. There are 14 photos in the sports section, two of which include women: a tiny one of Ko, and one of the British Open winner with his mother, Rosie.

It's 2014. This skewed focus regarding women in all sections, particularly sports, is unacceptable. We deserve better.
