Column lets U.S. responsibility for violence off the hook

Re "Peace may never be at hand in the Mideast" (Viewpoints, July 18): Eugene Robinson's column is riddled with errors as it lets U.S. policies off the hook for the lack of peace.

His ostensibly even-handed litany of wrongs with Palestinian atrocities -- presumably referring to the June killing of three Israeli teens in the West Bank -- endorses Israeli propaganda and denies context. For starters, Israel has still not produced evidence that Hamas was responsible. Regular kidnapping of Palestinian children from their homes, jailing hundreds and shooting dead unarmed youngsters -- all ignored.

Robinson says Palestinians have forgotten the events of 1948 or 1967. Hardly, when most residents of the outdoor prison that is Gaza are descendants of expelled refugees, and when the 47-year record of land theft and home demolition has only grown more brutal.
