Re "Hamas didn't break peace" (Letters, July 24): I doubt whether the person who wrote this letter exonerating Hamas of responsibility in the current crisis is familiar with the Hamas Charter, which clearly calls for the destruction of Israel and the killing of Jews worldwide.
Not only that, they mean it, as evidenced by their cynical and despicable behavior over the years. The latest course of action is designed to elicit world condemnation of Israel by the media and by those who clearly have lost their moral compass. No nation on Earth would put up with rocket fire on their civilians or allow sophisticated tunnels dug across their border whose sole purpose is to cause death and destruction.
A democracy defending itself against terror cannot always win the public relations battle, but it has every right to defend itself and defeat its enemies no matter the terrible cost. Sadly in this case, there is no choice.
