100-degree days bring tips from Sac Metro fire district

The National Weather Service is forecasting 100 degrees on Tuesday and 101 on Wednesday for Sacramento.

The toasty temperatures have prompted tips from fire department personnel, the men and women sometime called upon to treat heat-related illness. Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District safety tips:

-- Don’t leave children or pets in a parked car.

-- Check on elderly and those who live alone without air conditioning.

-- Make sure pets have ample water and shade

-- No air conditioning? Head to the mall, library or a movie.

The detailed, 7-day forecast for the Sacramento region from the NWS:

Tuesday: A 20 percent chance of showers before noon. Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 100. Light and variable wind becoming southwest around 6 mph in the afternoon.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 67. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph becoming south southeast after midnight.

Wednesday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 101. South southeast wind 5 to 7 mph.

Wednesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 66. South wind around 8 mph.

Thursday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 98. South wind around 7 mph.

Thursday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 64.

Friday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 97.

Friday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 64.

Saturday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 97.

Saturday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 64.

Sunday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 96.

Sunday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 64.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 95.
