Festa Italiana

Wine and pasta, anyone?

What: The 29th annual festival celebrates the best of Italy in Sacramento. Food, drink, classic Italian cars and more are part of the backdrop to the dancing and musical entertainment throughout the weekend.

When: 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday; 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday

Art reception

Abstract meets realistic

What: Ron Kenedi uses vibrant colors working with oil on linen and canvas. The show, “Paintings Sing and People Listen,” highlights the collaboration between the abstract and the realistic. Guitarist Jonathan Meredith performs at the opening reception.

When: Reception 4-7 p.m. Saturday; exhibit continues through Aug. 18

Rock hounds

Geology at the Discovery

What: A local geology enthusiast will share his collection of rocks and fossils, including a bendable rock, a mineral that bends light and a whale vertebrae fossil.

When: Noon-4 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, live family-friendly presentations at noon and 2 p.m.

What: This masquerade-themed party is highlighted by the announcement of more than 400 nominees for the awards presented by the Sacramento Area Regional Theatre Alliance. Light refreshments will be served.

Gone fishin’

Learn how to catch bass

What: You’ve got one more chance to learn casting techniques to catch bass with the help of the American River Conservancy and the El Dorado Chapter of Trout Unlimited at the last monthly fishing nights of the summer. Participants in the adults-only outing must have a valid California fishing license.

When: Tuesday of each month, (June-August) 5 to 8 p.m.
