Kings sign summer standout Eric Moreland

The Kings announced they have signed forward Eric Moreland to a three-year contract.

The deal is not fully guaranteed, but it allows the Kings to take a look at Moreland through training camp and if he continues to impress, the Kings can keep him in Sacramento beyond this coming season.

Moreland (6-10, 218) is an undrafted rookie from Oregon State who impressed the Kings with a strong showing in summer league.

Moreland averaged 8.8 rebounds and 2.7 blocks in 19.2 minutes in six games.

The Kings have 14 players under contract, one below the maximum a team can carry in the regular season.

That total includes Quincy Acy, who the Kings have until Aug. 15 to pick up his option for next season.

The Kings are also close to finalizing a deal with free agent forward Omri Casspi.

The Kings are still looking to gain roster flexibility by trading one or more of their power forwards and possibly dealing guard Jason Terry, who has said he would prefer not to play in Sacramento.

The Kings do not plan to buyout Terry, who is due $5.45 million this season.

The Kings are trying to avoid paying the luxury tax and will continue to look at ways to shed salary to stay below the tax line of $76.829 million.
