Flood watch issued in Yuba County due to concerns about earthen dam

Published: Thursday, Jul. 31, 2014 - 9:31 pm

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for a rural area of Yuba County due to the potential failure of a private earthen dam along Little Dry Creek.

The flood watch is in effect until midnight.

According to the National Weather Service, Yuba County and local officials have reported the possibility of failure of the earthen dam, and residents of several homes in the area have been notified. Flooding would occur in rural areas south of the dam, possibly toward Spring Valley Road.

A flood watch associated with the dam means there is an issue or significant problem that the dam owner is addressing. If the dam were to fail, the National Weather Service would upgrade the watch to a flash flood warning. Residents are advised to be prepared to quickly evacuate or quickly move to higher ground should a flood warning be issued.
