Triple-digit heat ushers in the start of August

To cap off a week of triple-digit temperatures, August kicks off today with the hottest day of the week.

The projected high in Sacramento is 105 degrees, according to the National Weather Service - one degree higher than Thursday’s 104 degrees, and well above the Aug. 1 average of 94 degrees.

A warm air mass will keep temperatures from dropping into the 90s until at least until Sunday. Temperatures in the mountains are expected to remain at above average highs as well.

A cooling trend is expected to start Sunday and continue into the work week.

A detailed, 7-day forecast from the NWS for the Sacramento region:

Friday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 105. Southwest wind 3 to 5 mph.

Friday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 67. South wind 6 to 8 mph.

Saturday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 101. Southwest wind 5 to 8 mph.

Saturday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 65. South wind 8 to 10 mph.

Sunday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 96. Southwest wind around 8 mph.

Sunday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 63.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 95.

Monday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 65.

Tuesday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 96.

Tuesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 67.

Wednesday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 96.

Wednesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 65.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 94.
