A grass fire swept through more than 30 acres on the American River Parkway near Cal Expo on Saturday afternoon before being contained by firefighters.

The flames erupted at 1:30 p.m. in an area of heavy vegetation, prompting the deployment of 75 firefighters and 20 pieces of equipment, including a helicopter. Sacramento Fire Department spokesman Roberto Padilla said some firefighters would work through the night to mop up the area and put out any hot spots. The cause of the fire was being investigated.
