Save the bees

Re "A lot is riding on finding culprit in honeybee deaths" (Editorial, July 27):Thank you for the wonderful editorial on Sunday about honeybees. As an environmentalist and nature lover, I am deeply concerned about the amount of pesticides that are used by farmers and homeowners. Not only killing, ants, butterflies, bees and other creepy crawly beneficial insects, but potentially poisoning ourselves.

Most bugs eating gardeners' flowers can be controlled with a simple solution of soap and water. We live in a senior community with a small yard that we have planted with bird and bee native and drought-tolerant plants. I've counted 12 different species of birds but alas, cannot remember the last time I heard a cricket singing at night as so many others in this community have hired hit men regularly spraying poisons for bugs.

It's time to ask our garden centers to stop selling insecticides.
