• ‘The Hundred-Foot Journey’
In theaters Friday
This feel-good summer feast of a film (produced by Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey, no less) centers on an Indian family that opens ethnic eatery Maison Mumbai in a small French town, directly across the street from a Michelin-starred establishment run by an acerbic grand dame (Helen Mirren). High jinks, romance – and lovingly shot food montages ensue.
• Ghirardelli Minis
$2.99 for 4 oz; various retailers; Ghirardelli.com
Northern California-based chocolatier Ghirardelli shrank its individually wrapped chocolate squares down to bite-size treats perfect for a candy bowl, purse or work bag. With the sleek packaging and petite proportions, they’re ideal for indulging with (almost) no guilt.
• Thomas’ Apple Pie English muffins and bagels
$4 to $4.50 per package; at local retailers; www.thomasbreads.com
Last April, Thomas’ bakery introduced limited-edition offerings of maple French toast-flavored bagels and cinnamon-vanilla English muffins. Now the 130-year-old company is back with more limited-edition products, this time Apple Pie English muffins and bagels. They’re on store shelves through October. We tried and liked both, though we think the apple-cinnamon theme might work better as the weather cools down. Look for Pumpkin Spice to debut in mid-September and Cranberry to hit stores in October.
