Re "Grass fire on the American River Parkway" (Sacto 911, Aug. 3): Another fire on the parkway? The burned trees will be lost for a generation. Where are our leaders who are supposed to protect public property? Are they waiting until the whole park is burned before doing something? The cause of the fire is under investigation? Oh, please.
As supervisor Phil Serna wrote months ago, the cause is illegal human activity. This is an urgent crisis in a drought year. No money for more park rangers? Do the math. Is it going to be cheaper to prevent the next fire or to fight it? Lets get some temporary help until it rains. Private security with access to the rangers or the cops should help. Maybe a night shift is indicated.
Or we could wait until the entire park is burned. That should end the fires.
