Marianne Russ has been named managing editor of Capital Public Radio News, a new position in a department with nearly 30 reporters, producers, editors and contributors.

Joe Barr, director of news and information, said Russ will coordinate the efforts of departmental divisions, including the regional news service, the “Insight with Beth Ruyak” morning show, the political news service Capital Public Radio Network, and “The View From Here” documentary series. She also will oversee daily and long-range editorial planning and work on special projects.

Russ previously worked as CPR’s capitol bureau chief for six years, covering the administrations of former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and current Gov. Jerry Brown. A recipient of numerous journalism awards, she also ran the station’s political news service, CPRN.

Sacramento-based Capital Public Radio Inc. says it reaches more than 470,000 listeners weekly via a network of radio stations in California, Nevada and Oregon.
