Shove, pepper spray and arrests in 3 Roseville shoplift incidents

Published: Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014 - 8:03 am

Three shoplifting incidents in Roseville last week resulted in four arrests and two store employees being assaulted.

The first reported theft occurred at 5:30 p.m. July 28 when an off-duty Roseville police officer noticed two women who appeared to be shoplifting baby formula at a Pleasant Grove Boulevard grocery store.

The officer alerted the police department and the store manager. Officers responded and arrested the two women, ages 34 and 35 years old, both from Sacramento, on suspicion of entering the store with intent to steal, drug possession and other charges.

The next day an employee at a clothing store in the 1900 block of Douglas Boulevard tried to stop three female shoplifters. One of the women pepper-sprayed the employee before the trio fled in a gold, older, Volvo four-door car.

They were described as black women in their late teens or early 20s. One was 5 feet tall with a heavy build. She was wearing a long wig, blue tank top and black shorts.

The second woman was 5 feet 6 inches tall with a thin build. She was wearing a white tank top, black or gray leggings and flip-flops.

The third was about 5 feet 7 inches tall with very long hair. She was wearing black cut-off shorts.

In the final incident, reported in a police newsletter, an employee at a Harding Boulevard hardware store tried to stop two men about 8 p.m. Aug. 1 from taking merchandise, according to police. One of the men shoved the employees before both alleged shoplifters fled on foot.

Officers eventually caught up with the men and arrested them. The suspected thieves are brothers from Sacramento.

The younger brother, 20 years old, was arrested on suspicion of robbery, battery and other charges. The other brother, 21 years old, was booked on suspicion of burglary, possession of methamphetamine and other charges.
