“Under Pressure: Diary of a Cage Fighter”

Marysville truckers turned TV stars wrap up season of A&E’s ‘Shipping Wars’ tonight

In 2008, The Bee profiled Marysville couple Todd and Tamera Sturgis, long-haul truckers who share driving duties on the road. The pair also had made a compelling, gritty mixed-martial arts documentary called “Under Pressure.

Rookie filmmaker Tamera directed the full-length documentary, which followed former high school wrestler Todd after he decided, in his 30s, to train as a cage fighter. The doc also provided greater context regarding the local MMA scene.

Now the Sturgises, aka The Most Interesting Couple in Marysville, appear on the A&E reality series “Shipping Wars.” The Sturgises compete with other cast members in a low-bid reverse auction to transport unusual objects. In the clip below, from an episode that first aired last week, they struggle to get a giant doggie-toy statue into their trailer. The pair have two days to get the artwork from Golden, Colo., to an animal fund-raiser in Los Angeles.

The two-part season final of “Shipping Wars” airs at 10 p.m. tonight on A&E.
