A several block section of 7th Street north of downtown is closed this week while crews build a new intersection that will allow drivers access to the downtown railyard next spring. The closure area is between North B and F streets. The street will be closed today through Thursday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Construction crews will install a traffic signal and new sidewalks at what will be the intersection of 7th Street and Railyards Boulevard. Railyards Boulevard will serve as the main east-west thoroughfare in the 240-acre railyard, which is being prepared for future development.

Crews will also add a traffic signal at the corner of 5th and H streets in the next few weeks, in preparation for opening the northern extension of 5th Street into the railyard next spring. The new 5th and 6th streets extensions into the railyard will connect with Railyards Boulevard.

Officials said 7th Street may be closed for continued work next week as well.
