Tuolumne County camp leader accused of sending sexual texts to teenage boy

A 22-year-old man who served as a leader at a youth camp in Tuolumne County is in El Dorado County Jail, accused of sending sexual text messages to a teenage boy.

Brandon Moe of Sonora was arrested Monday on a warrant alleging that he distributed or exhibited lewd material to a minor, according to an El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office news release. Bail was set by the court at $1 million.

On Aug. 9, a Tahoe Basin resident reported to the Sheriff’s Office that her 14-year-old son had been receiving inappropriate sexual text and Facebook messages from Moe, a camp staff member who her son met at a camp in Tuolumne County in July. Moe reportedly was assigned as the boy’s cabin leader. After the teenager returned to his home in El Dorado County, the two communicated via text and Facebook.

When the boy’s mother detected that the communications had changed from innocent to inappropriate and sexual, she contacted the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies in the South Lake Tahoe Station conducted an investigation, and a warrant for Moe’s arrest was issued Monday. Deputies from the El Dorado and Tuolumne county sheriff’s offices served arrest and search warrants late Monday afternoon, and Moe was transported to the El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe, where he remains in custody.
