Kudos to: Martin Luther King Jr. Library

Accomplishment: Held spelling bee for students

Details: The spelling bee included 103 students, ranging from first to eighth grade. Prizes were awarded to students in all grades. The yearly spelling bee is sponsored by the Friends of the Martin Luther King Jr. Library.

Kudos to: Junior Achievement of Sacramento

Accomplishment: Given 5 Star Award from Junior Achievement USA

Details: The award recognizes commitment and dedication to young people. Each year, Junior Achievement of Sacramento reaches 12,500 students with more than 700 volunteers. Junior Achievement focuses on work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy.

Kudos to: Dean Murakami, American River College psychology professor

Accomplishment: Named 2014 Union Ambassador of the Year by Sacramento Central Labor Council

Details: The award recognizes a person who has looked beyond boundaries and helps working families. Murakami is president of the Los Rios College Federation of Teachers and president of the Faculty Association of California Community Colleges.
