Searchers recover body of Folsom man missing on south fork of American River

Published: Monday, Aug. 18, 2014 - 5:09 pm

Searchers on Monday recovered the body of a Folsom man missing since Saturday in the south fork of the American River.

The body of Raymond Nocon, 32, was pulled from the waters Monday by El Dorado County Sheriff’s searchers and a coroner’s investigation had begun to determined how Nocon died, sheriff’s officials said.

Nocon had been missing since about 9 p.m. Saturday when his raft capsized. Nocon had been rafting with a friend when their raft went down. Both rafters ended up in the water just downriver from a spot rafters call Gorilla Rock. Gorilla Rock is about 14 miles downstream from Chili Bar and about 7.5 miles upstream from the Salmon Falls bridge.

The two became separated, and the friend ultimately reached the river’s bank and walked until he found help.

Searchers from various local, county and federal agencies scoured the area by boat and on land Monday.
