At least 17 companies from the Sacramento region show up on Inc. magazines annual list of the 5,000 fastest-growing, privately-held companies in the United States.
All told, nearly 700 California companies made Inc.s list, according to Gov. Jerry Browns Office of Business and Economic Development.
The list is a kind of whos who of American entrepreneurship, detailing the companies with the fastest rate of revenue growth over the past three years. The magazine has been compiling the list for 33 years.
According to the magazine, the fastest-growing private company in the region is StemExpress of Placerville, whose revenue increased 1,316 percent in three years. StemExpress, a provider of specialty medical products like bone marrow and umbilical cord blood, is No. 363 on the Inc. list.
The second fastest-growing company in the region is iUnlimited Investigative Services of Sacramento, whose revenue has increased 713 percent in three years, to $5.2 million in 2013. The company, which conducts insurance investigations, clocked in at No. 645 on the magazines list.
The largest of the regions fast-growing companies is Flyers Energy LLC of Auburn, a $1.98 billion-a-year chain of gas stations and convenience stores. The companys revenue has grown 68 percent in three years, putting it at No. 4204 on the list.
The second-largest company in the list Vista Imaging Services of El Dorado Hills, which generated $25.9 million in sales last year. The company provides medical-imaging services at surgery centers and other facilities. It was ranked No. 802 on the list and saw revenues increase 567 percent in three years.
