Many achievements of De La Salle High School’s football team are spotlighted in the just-released movie “When the Game Stands Tall.” De La Salle’s impact has extended also to Sacramento-area prep football.

Sacramento-area teams have faced the Spartans three times in the last two years, twice when state championships were at stake. They are scheduled to meet again.

De La Salle won both of the title games, defeating Folsom in the 2012 and 2013 Open Division state championship games. In 2012, the Spartans defeated the Bulldogs 49-15, then in 2013 won again, 45-17.

Del Oro also lost to De La Salle last year, falling 41-3 in an early-season game.

Two Sacramento-area teams are scheduled to play De La Salle this season: Jesuit opens its schedule on Aug. 29 against the Spartans at UC Berkeley’s Memorial Stadium. Gametime is 8 p.m. De La Salle travels to Loomis on Sept. 19 for a rematch with Del Oro.

Del Oro is ranked No. 3 in The Bee’s preseason poll, and Jesuit is No. 6.
