Sierra Chefs Challenge

What: Three Tahoe-area chefs will have 45 minutes to create two dishes with mystery ingredients to be judged on creativity, presentation and taste. The challenge is part of the fourth annual Sample the Sierra weekend.

When: Noon-5 p.m. Sunday

Where: Sierra Stage, Bijou Community Park, 1201 Al Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe

Cost: $40 covers full-tasting ticket to the festival


Jewish Food Faire

What: The 37th Annual Sacramento Jewish Food Faire has been organized with a theme of “Delicious Foods for a Sweet New Year” with food, music and a blood drive.

When: 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 14

Where: Congregation Beth Shalom, 4746 El Camino Ave., Carmichael

What: The September Guest Chef Dinner at Plates Cafe will feature Patrick Mulvaney from Mulvaney’s B&L. The monthly dinners raise funds for St. John’s Program for Real Change.
