River Cats glance: Cats surge in eighth to defeat Sounds

Published: Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014 - 11:15 pm

Highlight: The River Cats batted around in a six-run eighth inning to beat the host Nashville Sounds 8-5 Wednesday night.

Big inning: The Sacramento eighth included seven hits, all singles, a sacrifice fly and a bases-loaded walk.

Costly gaffes: Nashville scored its first run with two outs in the fourth when River Cats starter Arnold Leon hit Pete Orr with a pitch with the bases loaded. In the Sounds’ sixth, after a throwing error by Tyler Ladendorf, Jeremy Hermida hit a two-run homer off Paul Smyth. Orr then was hit by a pitch again and eventually scored on Eugenio Velez’s grounder.

Heading home: After winning three of four in Nashville, the River Cats close the regular season at Raley Field with a five-game series against the Reno Aces with the division title and a playoff berth on the line. The River Cats lead the Aces by one game.

Today: Reno TBD vs. River Cats TBD, 7:05 p.m., Raley Field.
