Re "Obama outlines help for troops, veterans" (Page A12, Aug. 27): As reported by Katie Zezima, President Obama spoke on Tuesday about strengthening access to mental health care for veterans. We are fortunate in Sacramento to have excellent access to mental health care at the Veterans Affairs clinic and hospital.
The VA in Sacramento has done an outstanding job providing mental health services to our family member, who served in the Army in Afghanistan and who has been treated for post-traumatic stress disorder, and traumatic brain injury. His wife says the doctors at VA are heroes because of the caring and excellent treatment he has received.
Some years ago, I heard a talk by Dr. Maga Jackson-Triche, the psychiatrist in charge of VA mental health services for the greater Sacramento area. She and her staff are dedicated to our vets getting excellent treatment including individual, group and family counseling and medication evaluation and monitoring.
